When you read that title did it invoke positive or negative imagery? I would bet a can of Wasabi peas you felt it was negative. I don’t know why the word “boring” has negative connotations attached to it. If anything, being bored means things are pretty good. I guess not everyone can appreciate or see it that way. I read an interesting article today mentioning that woman stuffer from a kind of mid-life crisis. They decide they want to trade in their boring normal lives for one with adventure, and romance in exotic destinations. As illustrated in a bunch of chick flicks I’ve never seen including Sex in the City 2? I am just going off the article but, it mentioned that in Sex in the City 2 the main character gets the dude she’s been chasing forever; marries him gets bored, goes on a trip then cheats on him? WTF? Apparently, this type of “crisis” causes women to take dramatic and irrational measures to alleviate boredom, and dissatisfaction with such boredom. They feel that their crappy husbands have gotten in between them and their dreams. All this compounded with the pressures of aging these women become incessant about being young again doing young things: like playing PS3 and riding a yellow school bus (not part of the article but my input is more PG lol). Apparently, being reliable is boring, and being loyal is a liability for girls trying to shed their skin. Shit, sounds like a lot of girls I know are already at this stage lol . Anyway,
I am just giving you guys a heads up. Thankfully, I have an affinity towards boring girls! (That’s a compliment)
Here’s a poem I read at the book store:
Being Boring by Wendy Cope
'May you live in interesting times.' Chinese curse
If you ask me 'What's new?', I have nothing to say
Except that the garden is growing.
I had a slight cold but its better today.
I'm content with the way things are going.
Yes, he is the same as he usually is,
Still eating and sleeping and snoring.
I get on with my work. He gets on with his.
I know this is all very boring.
There was drama enough in my turbulent past:
Tears and passion - I've used up a tankful.
No news is good news, and long may it last,
If nothing much happens, I'm thankful.
A happier cabbage you never did see,
My vegetable spirits are soaring.
If you're after excitement, steer well clear of me.
I want to go on being boring.
I don't go to parties. Well, what are they for,
If you don't need to find a new lover?
You drink and you listen and drink a bit more
And you take the next day to recover.
Someone to stay home with was all my desire
And, now that I've found a safe mooring,
I've just one ambition in life: I aspire
To go on and on being boring.
